Wooftasticbooks interviews Rose

Wooftasticbooks are pleased to present an interview with ex-street dog Rose.

Could you tell me about your past life?

When I was less than a year, I was pregnant, on the streets of St. Kitts. The Shelter Voiceless Dogs of Nassau, Bahamas rescued me.

I had a litter of 16 puppies in October of 2021. Pups cannot be transported to the US, unless they are six months old. So after the six months was up In March of 2022, my puppies were sent around various places in the US. Then I was taken to Palm Beach County, FL in early April 2021.

Unfortunately, the rescue organisation that brought me over had no foster homes. However, I had some luck the woman who organised the transport put my photo on a neighbourhood site, and that’s when Beth my human, saw my photo and read my story and knew then that I was the dog for her.

Tell me about the day Beth adopted you.

The transport person, my Fairy Godmother, agreed to bring me to Beth’s house on 4/20/22. There I met Gizmo, Beth´s pooch who would be my brother, and we walked around the neighbourhood. At the end of the walk Beth and my Fairy Godmother sat and talked for a while. My new human said I was so sweet, and she knew that I would be her dog.

Beth paid the adoption fee, and just like that I belonged to a loving family, Yipee! I was named Shayna Rose, Shayna means pretty, in Hebrew and Rose was Beth’s grandmother’s name.

How long did it take you to fully settle in?

It’s been a year now that I’ve been with my family, there´re still some things that confuse me about living in a house, but I’m doing very well, and my bond with my family strengthens every day.

Is there anything that makes you barking mad?

Nothing makes me mad, really. However, Beth does get mad, when she thinks about the rescue shelter. As not once in the past year has anyone from the group checked on how the adoption went. This makes my human barking mad, as Beth has lots of experience working in rescue/refuges

Do you have any favourite dog books? “ Rin Tin Tin : The Life and Legend “by Susan Orlean is one of my favorites.

How would you describe your personality?

I’m told that I’m a sweet and gentle dog, but apparently, there is a bit of mischief in my beautiful brown eyes.

Anything else you would like to tell me?

We’re moving next month to a place where for the first time, I´ll have my own yard to explore, and I predict lots of fun ahead.
